Alltrails, you’re such a liar ! 😂 We had time for an afternoon hike today and picked this supposedly 5.9 mile, 3 hour hike and by the time we were done, it was more like 7 miles and more like 4 hours thanks to the tricky terrain.
It was a very fun hike, though. Lots of great views and some interesting experiences like using guide ropes to scale down giant rocks.

I only slipped once and fortunately had my hands/arms bracing me so did not hurt myself.

Big Tom was the mountain we summited with some amazing views of the blue ridge mountains.

This loop also takes us past our regular camp site and up the climb to Mt Mitchell. This is the first hike I had ever gone on here and it was really good to come back a year later and see how much better I did this time around.
Don’t get me wrong, this hike still kicked my ass. Hard.
But it was a very interesting, fun technical hike. We are definitely doing this again!
