It’s been a chilly week here in Asheville with a light dusting of snow. I was nervous we wouldn’t be able to make it out there in the weekend but it worked out fine!
I stuck to my 3x Strength sessions this week. The overhead dumbbell routines are really pushing my arms.
Update on my planking progress – I’m able to plank 40 seconds twice now. It’s nothing for most people but for someone who’s never done it in my life, I’m very proud of myself.
I also purchased some kettle bells to add to my routine.
I got this brand after some research but holy crap they are pricey. I want to do some grind routines for endurance. Will see how I do after they get here!
Our weekend routine was modified due to activities on Saturday. I’m thinking this might need to be a permanent modification. The kids just have too much going on on Saturdays.
I also signed Emma and myself up for a trial Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class on Tuesday 😱 I don’t know how it’s going to go. I might hate it.
Our Sunday Hike was a really lovely one. Michael’s old ACL injury has been acting up so we picked a nice moderate hike out at Rocky Fork State Park.
This is hands down still my favorite place to hike. Something about being close to waterfalls, creeks and not a lot of people just appeals to me.
It was a clear beautiful day that started off at 25 degrees and later warmed up to the 40’s.
I helped a group of older ladies at the trailhead who had no map with them and directed them to a shorter loop…. But I forgot that the loop ends with fording the knee deep creek to get back to the parking lot. Oops. I saw them on the way out. They seemed to be prepared for it with hiking poles but I should have warned them about the creek crossing.
We saw a black bear!!! No photos because I was so excited. He wanted nothing to do with us and was sprinting up the snowy mountain. Always amazing to see the wildlife (from a safe distance and with bear spray at hand).
I have done this hike many times and today was a personal best in speed and duration. I don’t think I could really maintain this speed at bigger elevation gains but was nice to see my performance improve after weeks of training.
I used to have to stop and catch my breath at many points but today I felt strong and energetic.
